The winner of the Lulu for Best Screenplay will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 25th at 6:00 p.m.,
and will also win—
Write Brothers Screenplay Suite of software (Movie Magic Screenwriter, Dramatica Pro, Outline — SRP $499.85),
have their script read by a representative from Lionsgate,
a cash prize of $100,
and an autographed HDIFF poster.

We are extremely proud to welcome Sophie Simmons, daughter of legendary KISS rock star, Gene Simmons, and co-star on A&E's hit reality show, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, to the festival as part of our special Insiders events.

Sophie will be atteSophie Simmonssmnding the NyE Communities Coalition for at-risk kids special engagement with Anne Serling, daughter of Rod Serling.  Sophie has demonstrated a vested commitment to a number of charitable foundations, including her own called Sophie's Place, which is a center for abused children to seek help in a kid-friendly, safe environment, so we are proud to have her visit the kids at the NyE Communities Coalition as they premiere their short film, a Twilight Zone parody. 

Currently, the actress, singer, philanthropist is filming her own reality TV show with her mother, Shannon Tweed Simmons, due to air on W Network, which will premier in Canada later this year.  As part of our special Insiders events, Sophie will be participating in select panels with Q&A, and special Meet&Greets as well.  The High Desert International Film Festival runs from May 22-25 and badges must be purchased online in advance of the festival on our website

chip2smBeing a neighbor of Las Vegas, we had to do this! We're kicking off the festival with the Inaugural Joey Arone High Desert International Film Festival Poker Tournament.

We're keeping this an intimate affair to celebrate our small town hospitality and inviting some special guests, but that means tickets are extremely limited, so be prepared to purchase as soon as they go on sale!

Historical Writing Competition

On October 31, 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation granting statehood to Nevada making it the 36th of the United States of America. To commemorate this event and to showcase the home state of the HDIFF, we have added a short story competition. To qualify for submission, the written works must draw from historical or modern Nevada as a topic of a fictional work or a story drawn from real life events. Story should contain 1000-5000 words. Possible topics (suggestions only):

American Indian History Territorial History Old Spanish Trail Pony Express
Early Mining Legal Prostitution Mobsters Gambling
Lake Tahoe Las Vegas Spanish History Reno

She will be helping us in our continued effort to support the NyE Communities Coalition for at-risk kids with a special engagement held at the NyE Communities Coalition Manse Center.
